St. Catharines invites community to Keefer Road explosion meeting

Community members are invited to a meeting held by the City of St. Catharines tonight to learn more about the ongoing investigation into an explosion at a waste facility in January that killed one man.
The explosion rang out shortly after 6:30 a.m. in the Port Weller neighbourhood on Jan. 12, causing giant plumes of smoke to rise into the sky.
It happened at Ssonix Products 2010 Inc., killing a lone worker at the facility, 37-year-old Ryan Konkin.

The meeting is being held in order to update the community on remediation efforts and takes place this evening at 7 p.m. at Grantham Lions Club, located at 732 Niagara St.
There will be a chance for community members to ask questions at the meeting, but the City says “not all topics can be addressed due to ongoing investigations”.

The Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks is providing an update alongside St. Catharines Fire Services, Niagara Region Public Health and other partners.
Anyone who is not able to physically attend the meeting can watch the livestream online on the City of St. Catharine’s YouTube channel.
