A Lincoln man has been charged with careless driving following a weekend collision in St. Catharines that sent a local couple to hospital with serious injuries.
Niagara police were called to the area of St. Paul Street West and Fifth Street South around 4:40 p.m. on Saturday following reports of a two-vehicle collision.
A 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 29-year-old Lincoln man, was travelling eastbound on St. Paul Street West when it crossed into oncoming traffic while navigating a corner and collided with a 2005 Chevrolet Astro van with two St. Catharines residents inside.
An 87-year-old man was airlifted to an out-of-region hospital for treatment of serious injuries. His passenger, an 82-year-old woman, was transported by land ambulance to an out-of-region hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Following medical assessment, both were determined to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say that the driver of the Lincoln suffered minor injuries.
