Speedskater Valérie Maltais is the first Canadian athlete to get on the podium at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Games.

Maltais is coming home with a bronze medal in the women’s 3,000 metres.

Hailing from La Baie, Que. Maltais finished in third place with a time of 3:59.93 seconds Saturday. Ahead of her on the podium was Italy’s Francesca Lollobrigida who won gold with an Olympic record time of 3:54.28. Norway’s Ragne Wiklund came second with a time of 3:56.54.
