Not only is drunk driving a problem on our roads but so is excessive speed. There’ve been a number of drivers charged with stunt driving this month alone, including one just this morning. A 22-year old man was caught speeding down the QEW at almost 200 kilometres an hour. His Mercedes was impounded for seven days and his license has been suspended.

Most drivers may be surprised at how long it takes to react and stop.
“On the QEW to stop it takes about 60 metres of braking time on a dry road properly inflated tires good brakes and things like that but then there is actually the ability to see and get your brake from the gas to the brake pedal.” Scott Marshall from Young Drivers.

And that’s if you’re driving the speed limit. If you’re going as fast as this driver was it could be three times as much.

Hamilton police have handed out over 2 000 tickets on the Red Hill and the Linc since December, about 90% of those were speeding tickets.
