Southern Ontario in heat wave

For the fourth consecutive day, extreme heat is baking Southern Ontario with no relief overnight from the oppressive humidity.

Heat warnings from public health units in many communities prompted public swimming pools to stay open for extended hours last night. Day-time temperatures continue to surge into the thirties before the humidity is factored in. Some pools were open until 8 or 9 o’clock as many families and individuals took advantage of the late swimming hours to escape the heat.

Splash pads are also packed. In Niagara Falls and St. Catharines they’ll be open until 9pm each evening until the excessive heat alert has been lifted. Burlington is also bringing residents relief by extending swimming hours at Nelson and Mountainside pools.

I you think the heat is unbearable here, temperatures with the humidity factored in is expected to hit 52 degrees today in Chicago, that’s 125 degrees Fahrenheit!
