Sleepless night for fruit growers

It looks like Niagara fruit-growers have escaped the worst of the cold overnight.

They were concerned that if temperatures dropped below minus four degrees the frost could cause widespread damage — and while we saw that and lower inland, the worst niagara saw was -3 or -4. Because of the unusually warm weather over the past few weeks crops in the region have already started to bud, and a hard frost or cold snap could kill them. Norfolk county fruit growers may fare worse than Niagara – in some parts of the county temperatures hit -7 at 6 am.
