SIU investigating fatal fall from a Burlington apartment balcony

Ontario’s top police watchdog will be investigating after a deadly incident in Burlington that took one life and left one other in critical condition.

Halton police were originally called to an apartment building on Ghent St. around 10 p.m. on Friday night for reports of a person with a gun.

When officers arrived, they knocked on the door of the reported unit and received no response.

A second call was then received by police for reports of a woman who fell onto a patio below the unit.

Emergency responders say two people were found on the patio below the unit where it is believed they fell from the balcony above.

A 24-year-old woman from Burlington was pronounced deceased on scene and a 29-year-old man from Burlington was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The SIU has invoked its mandate and has taken over the investigation of the incident.
