Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a man was allegedly shot and killed by two Halton police officers early Saturday morning in Oakville.

The officers were responding to a home on Stanbury Road around 1:40 a.m. for reports of a stabbing when the incident occurred.

A spokesperson with the Special Investigations Unit, Kristy Denette, said the officers entered the home, located the man and an interaction led to both officers firing their weapons.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His age and identity is not being released pending notification of next-of-kin.

Denette said there was another man at the residence at the time who was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The relationship between this man and the deceased man is not clear, although preliminary information suggests the pair lived together at the Stanbury Road home.

The SIU said six investigators and three additional forensic investigators have been assigned to the case, with a post-mortem scheduled for tomorrow.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the SIU’s lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
