SIU investigates death at Devil’s Punchbowl in Stoney Creek

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating the death of a man at the Devil’s Punchbowl conservation area in Stoney Creek.

Hamilton police were called to the area on Ridge Rd. around 3 p.m. Monday.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says a 31-year-old man jumped into the gorge when officers arrived on scene.

Emergency crews located the man on the ground below, where he was pronounced dead.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates any incidents involving a police officer that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault or the discharge of a firearm.
