SIU closes investigation into arrest of man charged in Boris Brott’s death

Ontario’s police watchdog has closed an investigation into the April arrest of the man involved in the hit-and-run that killed renowned Hamilton conductor Boris Brott.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said Hamilton police received reports of a reckless driver on April 5.
Officers said the man was driving the wrong way on Markland St. in downtown Hamilton and turned onto Park Ave. He then struck and killed Boris Brott, who lived in the neighbourhood.
Arsenije Lojovic, 34, was arrested a short time later on the mountain on Elmwood St. His Volkswagen had a smashed windshield and was boxed in by a police cruiser. Another police cruiser in the area was also damaged.
The SIU said police used force during the arrest.
Lojovic was assessed at a hospital where it was determined he had not suffered any serious injuries.
Three officers were also taken to hospital for minor injuries, but have since been released.
Since police were involved, the SIU took over the case. The police watchdog said Wednesday it does not have statutory jurisdiction to continue the investigation as the man did not sustain any serious injuries.
