Simcoe man called 911 when his illegal drugs didn’t arrive: Nofolk County OPP

Norfolk County OPP say a man called police to report a theft involving illicit drugs.

In a video posted to Twitter, OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk is reminding residents about when it’s appropriate to call 911.

This message comes after officers were called to an address in Simcoe on Thursday, just before 11 p.m., with a man reporting an emergency.

Police say the man called 911 after he e-transferred money to buy illicit drugs. Those drugs never arrived and the man wanted to report a theft.

“When people need emergency assistance, dialing 911 gets immediate help under normal circumstances. On average it takes two officers approximately 30 minutes to respond, investigate and clear the call,” said Sanchuk.

“This puts enormous pressure on OPP resources when officers respond to unnecessary calls that could be prevented.”

Sanchuk says residents in an emergency situation should call 911. That doesn’t include asking about road conditions, reporting a power outage or calling about a sick raccoon on your property, which are all calls they have received in the past.

Residents reporting non-emergencies should call 1-888-310-1122.
