It’s a Victoria Day tradition, dating back to Queen Victoria herself.

The 114th annual Bread and Cheese Festival was held at the Gaylord Powless Arena in Ohsweken. Hundreds gathered to enjoy over 4,000 pounds of cheese and bread. One woman used the event as a platform to promote a cause — the prevention of aboriginal teen suicides, which are six times the national average.


In 1897, the Queen began providing gifts to Six Nations community members as a thank-you for their allegiance during the War of 1812.
