Sexual harassment at HSR to be addressed by council

(Updated) Allegations of rampant sexual harassment at Hamilton’s transit authority are being discussed at tonight council meeting.
It’s not a new problem. In fact, if you believe the women who have filed a number of complaints over the years, it’s been going on for decades.
Hamilton City Council is meeting this evening to consider the findings of a confidential report about sexual harassment at HSR, the Hamilton Street Railway.
For years, the city’s female bus drivers have complained about sexual harassment including the use of profanity, sexist comments, pornography posted in the workplace and inappropriate touching.
Although city officials are remaining tight-lipped about the report, it’s believed it calls for a change in leadership and a direct attempt to change the workplace culture.
The union representing the workers, the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 107, is calling for changes at the top.
Although they are cautiously optimistic about the report, they say this isn’t a new problem. They have been attempting to have the harrassment allegations addressed for years, with little done so far.
