Seventh Son is a fantasy adventure based on the novel The Spook’s Apprentice by Joseph Delaney, directed by Sergei Bodrov (Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan). The film was originally slated for release on October 18, 2013 but was moved around and delayed when production company Legendary Pictures left Warner Bros. to go to Universal. It stars Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes, Alicia Vikander, Kit Harington, Djimon Hounsou, and Julianne Moore.
In a time of enchantments when legends and magic collide, the sole remaining warrior of a mystical order (Oscar® winner JEFF BRIDGES of True Grit, Iron Man) travels to find a prophesized hero born with incredible powers, the last Seventh Son (BEN BARNES of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Stardust). Torn from his quiet life as a farmhand, the unlikely young hero of Seventh Son embarks on a daring adventure with his battle-hardened mentor to vanquish a dark queen (Golden Globe Award winner JULIANNE MOORE of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, The Kids Are All Right) and the army of supernatural assassins she has dispatched against their kingdom.
“The reason that ‘The Spook’s Apprentice’ is so fantastic is that it demythologizes magic,” explains producer Basil Iwanyk. “It makes fighting these magical creatures more of a craft or a science than something fantastical. A Falcon Knight is not a wizard; he is a knight/soldier who has to study each creature’s strengths and weaknesses, how they can be killed or harnessed. He has to know not only how to defeat them physically but intellectually.”
Seventh Son is rated PG. You can read our review of the film here.
