Security screeners laid off at Pearson
By the end of the month, it could take even longer to clear security at Pearson International.
Nearly 300 airport security screeners are being temporarily laid off. Garda, the private company that provides screeners at Pearson, has told staff in a memo this will take effect January 25th. Garda blames an “adjustment of hours” by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority. CATSA says security is not being compromised.
Garda is hoping to recall most of the laid-off screeners on a part-time basis.
