Seaway strike averted

A tentative agreement has been reached between management of the St Lawrence Seaway and the Canadian Auto Workers union.

The workers were set to walk off the job at midday Monday, and a strike could have halted traffic on one of the world’s most prosperous shipping routes. Large freighters with billions of dollars worth of goods pass through the Great Lakes.

The CAW says it is unanimously recommending the tentative three year agreement. Ratification votes will be held over the next three weeks.
