A school bus driver in Hamilton has lost his job and is facing an impaired driving charge, after he allegedly picked up a group of children while under the influence of alcohol. The reaction from parents was shock today as they wrap their mind around the fact that someone who is trusted to protect kids, may have been engaging in one of the most reckless crimes imaginable.
The bus travelled about a kilometer to the corner of Maple and Garside before being radio’d to pull over and wait for police. He was found to be twice the legal limit. There had been some concern that staff allowed the driver to leave, but Constable Steve Welton with the Hamilton Police says that the call itself is the important move.
The driver, a 48 year old man has been charged with impaired driving, he has also been fired from his job with Attridge Transportation. Attridge says that all of their drivers must clear a police check and undergo 70 hours of training before they are able to get behind the wheel.
