Safety concerns at St Joe’s psych unit

In the wake of last week’s murder on the grounds of St Joseph’s forensic unit – where a one patient beat another to death – come allegations that the hospital may not be doing enough to protect its patients and employees.

The forensic unit at St Joe’s houses patients who have come in contact with the law and there is a question of their mental status. Michael Brewer, who was killed last week would be one of those patients as well as Tyler Michel Valcheff who is charged with murder. Sean Leathong spoke with a registered practical nurse today who is a former employee of St Joe’s who knows both men, and expressed concern for the level of security in the unit.
