Rymal watermain breaks again

For the second straight day, there’s been a watermain break on Rymal Road on the Hamilton Mountain.

This break happened in the same pipe, just 500 metres east of Monday’s break. The city says the pipe at Rymal Road and Garth Street is 40 years old.

Crews are working to fix the leak. The main broke at about 2:00 in the afternoon.

Video shows water was shooting 20 metres into the air because the break was at the top of the pipe. That created a lot of debris that crews had to clean up first before tackling the pipe.

It’s too early to know what caused the break.

Crews will be working throughout the evening on repairs.

Monday’s break created a river that ran into the Elizabeth Village retirement community.

One lane is closed while they do their work.
