Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson has died. A statement from the band says she died “after a 17 year battle with cancer”.

They were hugely popular in Sweden, but Capitol Records wouldn’t release their records in North America – until an American student studying in Aweden brought one of their albums back to the states and convinced a local DJ to play it. After that, their popularity exploded.

Their 1987 single ‘It Must Have Been Love’ was rewritten for the Pretty Woman soundtrack.
