Remembering Cole Zelenco, Canadian who died fighting in Ukraine

The funeral for Cole Zelenco, 21, from St. Catharines took place Thursday at 5 p.m at Club Roma. Zelenco died while fighting in Ukraine last month. Family and friends attended the funeral along with many people from the Ukrainian community.

Zelenco was a volunteer fighter with the Ukrainian Forces. He also served in the Canadian Armed Forces for four years before being released to join the fight in Ukraine. Last week, his body arrived back home in Canada. A local motorcycle group from Hamilton followed the hearse carrying Zelenco from Pearson International Airport along the highway to St. Catharines.

The Ukrainian community in St. Catharine’s tells CHCH News that they are going to keep his legacy alive. They will continue to raise many for supplies and then ship them over to those fighting in Ukraine.
