For the second time in two weeks, police are dismantling a meth lab in Brampton.

RCMP and Peel police officers were at this home on Georgian Road near Williams Parkway since Friday morning.

Police say a sophisticated drug lab was discovered in the basement of the home, but say it wasn’t active.

The house is 100 metres away from an elementary school.

None of the neighbouring homes was evacuated, but the RCMP Sgt. Brent Hill says chemicals found inside the house are dangerous: “The drug lab itself is not active. When a drug lab is active, it certainly ups the level of threat. But regardless of being active at the time we execute the search warrant, what the problem is that we have such a volume of chemicals, strong acids and bases, and they’re not compatible. And we’re dealing with folks — illegal drug producers — that don’t appreciate the dangers, the properties associated with these chemicals. So quite often that leads to tragic consequences.”

Police hoped to wrap up their investigation at the home last tonight.

There’s been no word on any arrests. Last week, five people were charged after police raided another home in Brampton and seized six kilos of crystal meth.
