The Raid 2: Berendal

The Raid 2: Berendal is the sequel to 2011’s The Raid: Redemption and continues the story of Rama, the rookie cop thrust into the middle of a war between gangs and the police. Berendal takes place shortly after the apartment building massacre of the first film, of which Rama was one of the only survivors. Realizing how deep the city’s corruption runs, Rama goes undercover to infiltrate to syndicate and take it down from inside.

The Raid 2 and its prequel are Indonesian films in every way except for the fact that their director, Gareth Evans, is Welsh. Evans became fascinated by pencak silat, the Indonesian martial art style, and has made martial arts films highlighting it ever since. The film premiered earlier this year at Sundance and was screened at last month’s SXSW festival.

The Raid 2: Berendal is rated 18A.
