Racetrack slots to close
Updated video OLG set to pull the plug later today
Ontario Lottery and Gaming is officially shutting down its slot machines at racetracks in Fort Erie, Windsor and Sarnia. The move will eliminate hundreds of jobs; 200 in Fort Erie alone.
Workers in Fort Erie will hold a vigil as the slots close at 6pm.
The OLG has said the decision to close the slots was difficult but necessary, partly blaming decreased demand.
Officials from Fort Erie plan to meet tomorrow with the OLG to discuss the possibility of keeping the slots in town, while paying the province a fee.
