Queen Street south begins two-way conversion project
The City of Hamilton will begin converting Queen Street South between Aberdeen Avenue and King Street West into a two-way street today.
The construction project involves eight intersection improvements which include upgrades of traffic signals, roadway restoration, curb and sidewalk reconstruction. It will also include new installations to traffic signals one Queen Street South at Duke Street, Herkimer Street, and Napier Street.
The City of Hamilton says the project was designed to reduce speeds and overall collisions. It has also been made with a focus on safe and efficient movement of pedestrians and cyclists. Accessibility for those with Disabilities standards have also been incorporated including increased pedestrian and vehicle movement clarity.
Construction the project is anticipated to last until November of this year. It will start between Main Street West to Duke Street.
The city says that on-street parking will be affected and reduced by approximately 25 per cent.
Hamilton has also released a detailed itinerary and background of the $1.34 million dollar conversion project.
