QEW Open After Serious Crash in Mississauga
Two people are in critical condition following a crash involving a number of vehicles on a stretch of the QEW in Mississauga. The QEW has since reopened however, the crash investigation closed a large portion of the highway for most of the day, shutting down all Niagara bound lanes.
It happened at 10:45 this morning. Seven people were taken to hospital including a 12-year old boy who was airlifted to a trauma centre in Toronto in critical condition. A man was later transported from a nearby hospital to a Toronto ER after his status fell to critical. The other five passengers will be okay. Initial reports suggest the crash was triggered by a two-car collision as traffic came to a sudden slowdown.
“The pickup truck hauling a trailer hit another black Suburu, that sent that Suburu flying into the side of the transport truck which caused it to lose control which caused it to hit other vehicles which resulted in the serious injuries.” Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.
All lanes were closed causing severe slowdowns on side roads and onlookers on the eastbound QEW reduced the flow of traffic to a snails pace.
