Protests over 2SLGBTQ+ rights in schools come to a head across Canada

Demonstrations and counter-demonstrations were held across Canada today over the way schools teach about 2SLGBTQ+ topics, and how teachers refer to transgender students.

Chants like “leave our kids alone” and “no space for hate” could be heard from both sides of the dueling protests.

The action was so widespread that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau chimed in as well.

Today’s events sparked by changes in gender policies in New Brunswick and Saskatchewan schools.

We’re joined by Debbie Owusu-Akyeeah from the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity, which is based in Ottawa, where one of the many counter-protests were happening today.
