Protest at SISO

Current and past employees at the Settlement & Integration Services Organization in Hamilton are protesting after being given lay off notices.

About 40 laid-off SISO workers occupied the lobby of the settlement organization’s offices at Liuna Station Monday, demanding back pay, severance and the resignation of board members. Executive Director Sandra Mlekuz is meeting with a representative from the protesters this afternoon.

SISO was forced to shut down Friday when the bank refused to extend its line of credit after the organization fell behind in its government funding claims.
