Prisoner escapes from St. Joe’s hospital, found blocks away

Tense moments at St. Joseph’s hospital in downtown Hamilton Tuesday afternoon. A prisoner from the Hamilton Wentworth Detention centre, who was at the hospital for treatment, escaped custody.
The inmate was in the custody of corrections staff and was being taken back to the vehicle around 1:45 pm when he somehow broke free and escaped. Hamilton police were called to the scene, but according to police media relations it wasn’t them that captured the man. Corrections staff found the escaped inmate 15 minutes later around Bay and Herkimer, about three blocks away from where he escaped.
Hamilton police will be investigating and the inmate be facing further charges.
