Trudeau focuses on childcare during announcement in St. Thomas

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited St. Thomas on Monday to reiterate his commitment to developing affordable childcare services for Canadians across the country.

Trudeau’s visit to the Stationview YMCA in St. Thomas focused on the need for affordable childcare services in the wake of a growing economy backed by foreign enterprises.

This follows last year’s announcement that Volkswagen would build a “gigafactory” battery cell manufacturing hub in the area.

“On top of creating and securing good jobs for the community, we want to make sure workers know we’re here to support them and their families — this is why we’ve been investing in $10 a day childcare.”

The Prime Minister highlighted several aspects of his government’s 2024 federal budget, with a focus on further developing the party’s plans to deliver $10-a-day child care across the country.

Joining Trudeau at the announcement were several members of his cabinet and St. Thomas’ mayor Joe Preston.
