Famed primatologist, advocate and conservationist Jane Goodall has died at age 91.

In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, the Jane Goodall Institute announced its beloved founder died from natural causes while in California on a speaking tour.

“Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world,” read the statement.

Goodall was a pioneer in her field, beginning her research on chimpanzees at age 26 and continuing her advocacy for animals, the planet, and ecological conservation until her last days.
