Are the cities Public Works Departments and the residents of those cities prepared? It will be the first real blast of winter, but like one city official that I talked with said its coming in stages so we have time to prepare. And so do you. It won’t come down until a little after midnight but city crews in Hamilton and Burlington are already preparing for the eventuality.

As the snow falls overnight, city plows in Hamilton and Burlington will be out. But that only comes when the snow starts piling up. Friday they were been salting roads as they prepare for the inevitable. Talking with the city of Hamilton, they said that staff are put on notice for nights like this that some may stay a little longer while others may be called in early. I also went to the city of Burlington road maintenance building today. They have their salt trucks stocked and ready as well as the plows. I talked with Jeff Black with the City of Burlington Road Maintenance Dept.and asked him how ready they are for this first snowfall: “We’re completely ready to go. We’re 100% ready all of our equipment is ready to go. All of our material is in and loaded into trucks and our staff are prepared. It’s gonna start with applying some salt to the roadways, just to make sure the roads are safe. Once we start getting accumulation on the roadways, we’ll begin to deploy the plows.”

Now city officials wanted to let the public know what citizens have to do. The sidewalks have to be cleared within 24 hours of snow accumulation. There is still time tonight to gather the tools you’ll need to clear your snow.
