Power has been restored for nearly 4,000 Alectra customers in downtown Hamilton about four hours after the outage was first reported.

A spokesperson for Alectra Utilities says the loss of power happened shortly after 12 p.m. Wednesday.

It affected approximately 3,916 homes and businesses in the area of Aberdeen Avenue, Barton Street, Dundurn Street, James Street and York Boulevard.

Those in the impacted area told CHCH News that the loss of streetlights made travelling through the area difficult.

Alectra Utilities has yet to confirm the cause of the outage.
