The City of Hamilton says a section of Barton Street East will be closed for two weeks in order to repair a “significant” watermain leak beneath a CP rail track.

Officials say the issue must be addressed promptly to prevent any impact on the safety and operation of the rail line and water services.

In a release, the city says Barton Street East will be closed between Belmont Avenue and Lincoln Street from Feb. 27 at 9 a.m. to March 13 at 9 a.m.

CP Rail infrastructure is reportedly scheduled for removal and restoration. A watermain will also be replaced.

Transit and emergency services will be detoured as the roads will be closed and no through traffic will be permitted.
