Port Rowan community fought for only gas station to remain open

The community of Port Rowan on Lake Erie has made national news after it was faced with losing its only gas station. The gas station owners, Parkland Canada announced the station would close as of Mar. 31, which was last Friday. The community has seen many changes in the past number of years, including the local bank closing.

After the community fought back against the gas station closure with a petition, phone calls to the owners, and letters from the Norfolk County mayor and councillor. Community members say the gas station is now going to stay open.

CHCH News contacted the owners on Wednesday to get official confirmation on whether the gas station is staying open indefinitely. We haven’t heard back from them, but as of Wednesday, the gas station is still open. People CHCH News spoke with say this is a big win for the community.
