CHCH News anchor Adam Atkinson asked political analyst Keith Leslie how Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to Mexico Thursday will affect future trade talks with the United States.
The meeting comes as Canada, Mexico and the U.S. prepare to renegotiate their free trade deal next year.
Leslie spoke on Carney’s meeting possibly impacting those negotiations, and how the prime minister is laying down groundwork ahead of the meeting with President Donald Trump.
He also spoke about what to expect in the new strategic partnership between the two countries including agriculture, energy, and security.
Immediately following the announcement of tariffs, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith made comments about Mexico being the problem within the trade agreement, not Canada.
Leslie spoke on if those comments will hamper the relationships between the two countries and what “success” for Carney would look like in these talks.
