Halton police are warning residents after a black bear was spotted wandering near a wooded area in Halton Hills.

The sighting was reported around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday in a wooded area near the intersection of Regional Rd. 25 and Number 32 Side Rd. north.

Police say the small black bear was not acting in an aggressive manner.

It was last seen wandering into the bush just south of Davidson Dr.

The Ministry of Natural Resources has been contacted.

Police say although it is rare, it is not uncommon to have bear sightings in rural wooded areas.

If you spot a bear do not approach it, remain calm, and don’t panic. Bears who encounter people are normally stressed and will likely flee,” said police in a news release. “ If you see a bear, keep your pets inside. If a black bear poses an immediate threat call 911 and police will respond.”
