Police seize $40K worth of drugs, guns, and cash in Welland

Three people have been charged with multiple drug offences after an extensive methamphetamine investigation in Welland.

The Welland Street Crime Unit began an investigation dubbed “Project Iceberg” in January after receiving information that a federal parolee was selling drugs.

Police seized over $40,000 in drugs, including 300 grams of methamphetamine, 24 grams of cocaine, 50 Percocet tablets, and a small marijuana grow operation.

Police also found a handgun, rifle, ammunition and cash.

Wayne Sodtka, 30, Natasha Smagata, 31, and Scotty Mitchel, 23, are all facing drug trafficking charges. Mitchel is also facing nine additional charges that include possession for the purpose trafficking cocaine, oxycodine and marijuana.
