Niagara police are investigating after a dog was killed in a hit-and-run in Niagara Falls on Tuesday.

Officers were called to the area of Eastwood Cres. and Victoria Ave. around 1 p.m. for a report of a possible impaired driver.

The caller told police he had been walking his dog on the sidewalk when a driver in white car mounted the curb, hitting and killing his dog.

He says the driver did not stop and crossed a front lawn, narrowly missing a woman who had just parked and gotten out of a vehicle.

Police have released images of the vehicle, described as a white, four-door hatchback, and say there may be damage on the driver’s side front bumper.

They say the driver may have been male but they don’t have a suspect description right now.

Police say this incident isn’t related to the other impaired driving call received on Tuesday.

In that case, a man was shot by Niagara police in Niagara-on-the-Lake after a chase from Niagara Falls. He died in hospital.

The SIU is investigating.
