Police make two arrests in Hamilton ATM thefts

Hamilton Police have charged two people in connection with a slew of break and enters targeting ATMs in small businesses.

According to police, there has been a rise in the number of these early morning break and enters in Hamilton and the surrounding area since January 2018.

The suspects have been using stolen vehicles to ram through business entrances and steal ATMs resulting in thousands of dollars worth of damage, police said.

A 23-year-old woman has been arrested and faces 31 charges.

Police have also arrested a 16-year-old male. He faces 28 charges.

Some of the charges are related to the break and enter at the Spring Grill House on Hamilton Mountain, which was caught on surveillance video.

Hamilton Police worked with OPP Brant County and members of Project Shutdown, a multi-jurisdiction joint force aimed at targeting auto theft in the GTHA.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
