Homicide detectives have released the identity of a man whose body was found in a grassy area off of a highway in Port Colborne over the weekend.

Niagara police say the body of 38-year-old Daniel Sanvido was found around 3:30 p.m. Saturday near Forkes Road and Highway 140.

Detectives say that they have ruled out the idea that he was hit by a car.

Police also say that Sanvido was homeless before he died, but had a black 2016 Hyundai Tuscon which they have found in St. Catharines.

He was known to drive it frequently and had ties to St. Catharines and Welland.

His body was discovered with injuries, but police aren’t saying what type, or how exactly he died – to protect the investigation.

Officers say there is no threat to public safety.

The force’s forensic services unit and homicide detectives continue to investigate.

Anyone with information or who may have had contact with Sanvido within the last week leading up to his death is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Shawn Briggs at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009103.
