Police receive court order to identify 14-year-old suspected to be involved in fatal shooting

Hamilton police received a court order Saturday to identify the 14-year-old male involved in the fatal shooting at Jackson Square that claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy.

Soon after the shooting, investigators received judicial authorization to release the name and age of the suspect. Police then spent considerable effort to locate and arrest him. The teen turned himself in Sunday evening.

On April 24 at approximately 5:10 p.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting inside Jackson Square.

Upon arrival, authorities located a 16-year-old boy suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital where he later died of his injuries.

Following the shooting, two male suspects were observed fleeing the area eastbound toward James Street.

The accused is facing a second-degree murder charge.

Authorities are also working to identify the other suspect at the time of the shooting.
