Police continue search for owner of dog found near Niagara escarpment

Niagara Parks Police Service continues to search for the owner of a dog found alone and panicking on the Niagara Parkway Thursday afternoon.
Officers say the Lincoln County Humane Society took in the large sheepdog around 1:30 a.m. Friday after it was seen wearing a harness and running in the area of Portage Rd. and the Niagara Parkway in Niagara-on-the-Lake 12 hours earlier.
The NPPS, Niagara-on-the-Lake Fire Department, and Niagara Helicopters searched the Niagara River and escarpment for the dog owner, but did not locate them.

Officers are still checking parks along the Niagara River for any vehicles or people connected to the dog.
Police say the dog has brown and white shaggy fur. It was also wearing a blue harness without a leash attached to it.
The Lincoln County Humane Society says the male dog appears to be in good health.
