Police have arrested and charged a Waterloo man after his boat crashed into a Hamilton pier and sunk Wednesday night.

Hamilton fire and police responded to calls of a sinking 39-foot Bayliner on fire around 8 p.m. at Pier 8.

Investigators say the boat had hit the pier when returning to the marina.

Police arrested the 28-year-old driver as he appeared to be intoxicated. He has been charged with operating a vessel while impaired and failing to comply.

Emergency crews say no one was injured.
