Niagara police have charged a man in connection with a house fire and stabbing that sent one person to hospital with serious injuries Thursday evening.
Officers responded to the home shortly after 6:30 p.m. in the area of Collier Rd. North and Stewart Ave. where they discovered a Good Samaritan brought one person to a nearby fire station for treatment after the stabbing.
An initial investigation determined that a suspect was inside the residence with two other men when a knife was drawn.
Police say the male suspect threatened one of the victims with death, but he was not injured.
The other victim was stabbed with the knife multiple times resulting in serious injuries.
A driver in the area saw the injured man run from the home and offered to drive him to the nearest fire station for medical attention.
As the driver and victim were leaving the scene, the suspect kicked and damaged the vehicle.
The suspect fled the scene on foot. Officers then found him shortly before 7 p.m. on Allanburg Rd. South near Treeview Park and seized the knife used in the stabbing.
Niagara paramedics went to the fire station and brought the victim to an out-of-town trauma centre.
Police say both the suspect and two victims were known to each other.
Officers say the suspect also set the residence on fire, causing $5,000 in damage.
The male victim remains in hospital suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Bruce John Robert Love, 33, of Thorold has been charged with aggravated assault, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000 and arson causing damage to property.
Love is scheduled to appear in a St. Catharines courthouse Friday.
