PM Carney to meet President Trump at G7 Summit in Alberta

Prime Minister Mark Carney will meet U.S. President Donald Trump Monday morning ahead of the G7 summit in Alberta.
Despite having 34 felony convictions, Trump’s jet landed in Kananaskis Sunday.
This is his first visit to Canada since he suggested the country should become the 51st state – a comment that led to boos during the playing of the American anthem at sporting events.
The two leaders have reportedly been in frequent contact in recent weeks, trying to ease tensions over new tariffs.
Monday’s meeting in Alberta comes six years after Trump walked out the last G7 summit hosted by Canada.
The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. local time (11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time).
Carney is also leading discussions Monday on safety issues and artificial intelligence, while meeting with leaders from places including Japan, France and Italy.
He spoke with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Ottawa ahead of the G7 summit, pushing to restart stalled trade talks with the U.K. following Brexit.
Starmer said he expects he and other G7 leaders will seek the “de-escalation” in the conflict between Israel and Iran.
