PM Carney and Trump discuss ‘constructive’ talks, tariffs remain

Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump described their phone call on Friday as “productive” and “very constructive.” Trump did not back away from threats to impose new tariffs next Wednesday, nor did Carney back away from his threat to retaliate. While the tone was less contentious than previous talks with Justin Trudeau, Carney said Canada’s relationship with the U.S. has fundamentally changed.
