Plane crashes during community event near Owen Sound

One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a plane crashed during landing near Owen Sound, Ont.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Wings & Wheels event at Billy Bishop Regional Airport.

The aircraft, a WWII Harvard MK. IV, was attempting to land when it left the runway and flipped in the field.

The pilot, a 46-year-old Toronto man, and his 21-year-old passenger suffered only minor injuries in the crash. The man was transported to hospital and was later released. The passenger, a woman from West Grey, was treated at the scene.

An off-duty physician and nurse who were in attendance at the event came to the aide of the victims after the crash.

The Transportation Safety Board was notified and will continue the investigation.
