Pistorius weeps at not guilty verdict in Steenkamp shooting

The judge in the Oscar Pistorius murder trial has said the prosecution failed to prove he’s guilty of premeditated murder in the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius, 27, hung his head and wept on hearing the verdict.

The Olympian was charged in the fatal shooting of Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day 2013. Pistorius maintains he thought steenkamp was an intruder when he shot her.

With a first degree murder conviction off the table, the judge now has to announce whether Pistorius is guilty of second-degree murder, manslaughter or whether he’ll be acquitted, but found guilty on gun charges.

The court is now on a lunch break, after which the judge is expected to continue reading her ruling.
