Ontario’s PC party is tabling a private member’s bill aimed at capping third party spending during election campaigns.
PC leader Tim Hudak says the bill would bring an end to the “unrestricted spending of special interest groups” that influence elections through negative ad campaigns.
Hudak cites the last provincial election when the union-backed Working Families Coalition spent millions attacking the Ontario PCs.
British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, New Brunswick and the federal government have adopted controls over third party advertising.
